Massage at Spa Ja

I had an excellent massage at Spa Ja today. The experience was very civilized. I got there early. The owners of the spa served me tea with honey and biscotti. Lalita Hai, the massage therapist, then led me upstairs to a small room with a massage table. The room smelled faintly of perfume or incense. Soft Chinese music played in the background. There was a dim blue light. She left the room to let me take off my clothes and get under the sheet. When she came back she asked me if I wanted calming or energizing massage oil. I chose the calming oil. She started with my upper back and eventually worked her way to nearly every part of my body. She put her whole body into the massage, but still managed to be gentle. She was very good at finding my tension spots. Her work on my neck and my jaw felt especially good. She even worked in some reflexology on my feet, which in addition to being good for the feet is supposed to open up the throat. By the end of the hour, I felt completely relaxed. Lalita commented that my breathing had changed and had become easier. The massage was a fantastic experience. I look forward to going there again. At $120 for the hour, it was like a mini-vacation.
