Career Transition For Dancers presents the 8th Annual 'The Next Step Gala'- SHALL WE DANCE A Dance Tribute to Richard Rodgers this Monday, October 21st at 7:00 pm at City Center, West 55th Street (bet. 7th & 6th Avenues). Directed by Donald Saddler and produced by Ann Marie DeAngelo with Tony Monte as musical director, the Gala stars Sandy Duncan ('Ten Cents A Dance' with Don Correa & Guy Stroman), Mercedes Ellington, Frederic Franklin, *LaChanze ('You Will Never Walk Alone'), Bebe Neuwirth ('One Your Toes'), Ann Reinking, *Karen Ziemba ('The Sweetest Sounds") and *Wendee Lee Curtis & Karen Callaway Williams 'All Dark People' from "Babes in Arms") and dancers from American Ballet Theatre ('"Carousel" pas de deux & 'My Funny Valentine'), *AntiGravity ('You Will Never Walk Alone'), *Dance Times Square ('The Sweetest Sounds'), *Jennifer Muller/The Works ('Blue Moon'), National Dance Institute ('Shall We Dance'), New Jersey Tap Ensemble, New York City Ballet (Damian Woetzel & Maria Kowroski - 'Slaughter on Tenth Avenue' from "On Your Toes"), *Ohio Ballet ("Ghost Town") and *San Francisco Ballet (Lorena Feijoo & Damian Smith - 'No Other' from "Victory at Sea") & more. Rolex presents this gala of dance to the music of Richard Rodgers in celebration of his centennial with Bebe Neuwirth as host. * = PREMIERE Schedule and program subject to change.
Performances will include selections from Richard Rodgers dance classics as well as new works = 7 World PREMIERES set to Rodgers' music, including a selection from his only ballet "Ghost Town" (not performed in New York since March 1940).
During the gala awards will be presented by Career Transition For Dancers to Philip Morris Companies, Inc for building audiences for dance through its 30 years of wide-ranging and sustained support, and to Richard Rodgers (posthumously) in recognition of his outstanding musical contributions to the world of dance. The Awards are provided by Baccarat. A special Rolex Award presentation will be given to Ann Reinking.
The event is a benefit for Career Transition For Dancers. With offices in New York and Los Angeles, CTFD has helped over 2,400 professional dancers identify their unique talents in preparation for establishing new careers when dance is no longer an option. Since its founding in 1985, the organization has provided more than 30,000 hours of one-on-one career counseling - at no cost - and has awarded over $1.7 million in educational scholarships.
