New York City Edition V1N1 (December 2001)

Introduction

Welcome to the first issue of ExploreDance.com - the New York City print edition. ExploreDance.com is a web magazine that tells compelling stories about dance. We engage readers in an exploration of the trends and important ideas which lie at the heart of dance. This exploration invites the novice and the seasoned dancer alike, in Ballroom, Ballet and Beyond. This print edition will give you a sampling of what you can find on the web: insightful writing and great photography.

ExploreDance.com is not just a quest for a good place to dance, although we can help you with that too (exploredance.com/dancespots.html). We believe that dance is not just entertainment, but is an embodiment of humanity, decency and liberty. Informing our lives and our dance with such qualities is never easy, but the attempt is always needed, especially now.

This issue contains a profile of one of New York City's superb dance teachers, an article on where to offer or get help if you need help, a DanceSpot review, an interview with a ballet judge, a couple of snapshots and an announcement for an upcoming charity dance event you should not miss.

ExploreDance.com will be sponsoring the Children's Aid Society Annual Gala, to be held at the W Hotel on April 6, 2002.

Today, the Children's Aid Society (CAS) serves more than 120,000 children and their families each year, without regard to race, religion, nationality or socioeconomic status. CAS' mission is to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of children and families, and to provide each child with the opportunities needed to become a happy, healthy and successful adult. CAS runs a wide variety of programs through mentoring, counseling, community centers, job training, nutrition and more through the efforts of both paid staff and a large cadre of volunteers. Call 212-949-4936 or go to childrensaidsociety.org for more info about the Gala or to volunteer. CAS also hosts a series of happy hours (some with dancing). They are a great way to meet people who care about our city.
