A new Flamenco Club in Midtown Manhattan, called Sortie, with red-black decor, evocative of Spain, is hopping each Tuesday night, thanks to "Romeria Flamenca", a native Spanish Flamenco Trio. Using the signature "cahon", a wooden percussive box, plus vocals, castanets, hand-clapping, and guitar, this trio is a must-see adventure, after the early curtain of Tuesday's theaters and concerts, or for a treat on its own. You can order tasty tapas, standard drinks, and a special drink made of pomegranate liqueur. Plus, Juan, the Proprietor and Host, treats his guests with tiny liqueur and tapas tastings during the show.
Tonight, I was joined by Robert Abrams, Publisher, ExploreDance.com, a Flamenco aficianado, and the crowd built to an almost overflow capacity as the night wore on. In fact, the Flamenco trio was still dancing at 11 PM. Sortie is open on all the other nights for drinks, light fare, and socializing, but Tuesdays are extra special. Call 212.265.0650 for a reservation, or just stop by. Ask for Juan or Sarah and tell them you saw them on ExploreDance.com.
