Barbara Martinez, singer/dancer, Carlos Revollar, guitarist, and Maria Benjumeda, singer, performed a Flamenco show at the Franklin Station CafÈ in New York City. Maria sings with gusto and has a very expressive mouth. It was a shame it was hidden behind the mike. She could show herself off to better advantage with one of those headset mikes. The restaurant has a very small stage, but Barbara and her dancing filled it with passion. Carlos delivered evocative music to support the dancing and singing. The music was Flamenco at its most basic: just a guitar and palmas (clapping). It just went to show that you don't necessarily need a Peruvian beat box or any other instruments to produce good Flamenco music. The restaurant specializes in Malaysian food, which was very good and very spicy. The Flamenco show happens every second Friday of the month. There are 8 pm, 9 pm and 10 pm shows. There is no cover charge. The Franklin Station CafÈ doesn't have a lot of seats, so make sure to make a reservation. There was only one problem with the show: it was too short. Given the trio's talent, the amount of dancing and singing presented just wasn't enough.
