I am never disappointed in a Mario Fratti play (See Interview), and this evening was no exception. Although Bubi Escudero suffered from a viral infection, she sang and performed with a clear, lovely voice and superb stage presence. There were a film within a play and a dance (Argentine Tango) within a play. Bubi, a widow from an Argentine War, spoke often to the audience about her fantasies and experiences, as there was an element of surrealism in this play, similar to that of Nine, Fratti's Broadway play (See Nine Review). This evening's early presentation offered the audience at Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex a series of grand soliloquies by Escudero, a passionate bedroom scene, a humorous police scene, a film with scenes of Central Park and very NY characters, a history lesson in Argentine politics, and a lovely Tango by the extremely talented Joaquin Canay and Michelle Spires. Only in New York would the star of the show search the audience for a lover and ask the audience for a husband.

Kudos to Mario Fratti and Bubi Escudero for a delightful and entertaining evening.
